On 5 February 2026, the Captain of an Airbus A320neo began a rolling night takeoff at Brussels on a taxiway while the First Officer was head-down and transitioned to monitoring the engine instruments. On not receiving a prompt response to his 100 knot call, the First Officer looked outside, saw the aircraft was not on a runway, and called ‘STOP’ four times. On subsequently seeing a fence ahead as speed reduced, he then “instructed a right turn” and the aircraft stopped on a hard surface just beyond the edge of an intersecting taxiway.
