Volcanic Ash (SKYclip)

Volcanic Ash (SKYclip)

Editor's note: This SKYclip gives advice to crews concerned that they may be flying in the presence of volcanic ash. The voice-over says that the crew should monitor "altitude and airspeed"; this is incorrect. As the text in the animation correctly says, a crew should monitor attitude and airspeed. This is because one of the indications of volcanic ash may be blocked or partially blocked pitot tubes and static vents which can lead to unreliable airspeed and unusual aircraft attitude. See the article Volcanic Ash: Guidance for Flight Crews for further information and guidance.
